Shifts

This is how we expect things to be done.

Shift 1

0.00 a.m to 8:00 a.m
midnight to 8:00 am


Team = 7 Guards and 1 Supervisor


Shift Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the shift are to confirm the security and fire safety of BVSJ/DHS/Salim House Shelter, in addition to the security of staff, residents and guests. Ensure all equipment and security devices are operational, to ensure that all rules and regulations of BVSJ/DHS/Salim House Shelter, are adhered to. Security Duties Ensure that no one enters the facility after 10PM without the proper authorization.
Security dorm checks are conducted at 7 Am Monday to Friday, by the Operations Manager/ Residential Aide and Security/ Fire Guard. The purpose of this check is to notify all residents that they must be out of the Dorm by 9am.
Guards must:
  1. Knock on the door and state your gender(male/female).
  2. Check to see if there are any violations i.e. smoking, items on top of all lockers, no unauthorized electronics plugged in.
  3. Note violators' bed numbers and report violation to the Shift Supervisor. The Shift Supervisor will inform the Operations Manager on duty.
  4. Residents that have a “bed rest” pass can remain in the room. Passes will be posted on their locker. A sticky note will be placed outside of each door identifying each bed with the pass.
During this shift Security will be structured as follows:
  1. 1 Shift Supervisor
  2. 2 Guards on 3rd floor (Post 3A & 3B)
  3. 2 guards on 2nd floor (Post 2A & 2B)
  4. 2 Guards at Zone (Zone G1 & Zone G2). Zone G2 will take Post 1 anytime a client enters that area for water or bathroom. The Shift Supervisor will take the G2 Post when this happens.
  5. 1 Guard Post 1. Post 1 Guard becomes the Rover at 1AM until 5:45am when he returns to resume Post 1. Backyard is PERMANENTLY CLOSED to all clients.
Lunch breaks begin at 4AM. One Guard every 30 minutes.

CLIENTS ARE ONLY PERMITTED ACCESS TO THE FLOOR AND ROOM ASSIGNED. UTILIZE BED ROSTER BY CHECKING FOR VERIFICATION OF CLIENT BED LOCATION. (CHECK THE DATE IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT HAND CORNER DAILY).

Shift 2

8:00 a.m to 16:00 p.m
8:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m


Team = 8 Guards and 1 Supervisor


Shift Responsibilities
The responsibility of this shift is to confirm the security and fire safety of BVSJ/DHS/Salim House Shelter. In addition to the security of staff, residents and guests. Ensure that all rules and regulations of Salim House Shelter are adhered to. Ensure all equipment and security devices are operational, to ensure that all rules and regulations of BVSJ/DHS/Salim House Shelter, are adhered to.
Security Dorm Checks are conducted every half an hour.
Guards must:
  1. Check for any violations (see posting at Zone).
  2. Knock on the door state your gender (male/female).
  3. Check to see if there are any violations i.e. smoking, items on top of the locker, no unauthorized electronics plugged in.
  4. Note violators' bed numbers and report to your security Shift Supervisor. The Shift Supervisor will inform the Operations Manager on duty.
  5. All dorms must be empty by 9AM.
  6. Residents who have a “bed rest” pass can remain in the room. Passes will be posted on their locker. A sticky note will be placed outside of each door identifying each bed with the pass.
During this shift Security will be structured as follows:
  1. 1 Shift Supervisor
  2. 2 Guards Zone (Zone G1 & Zone G2)
  3. 1 Guard Post 1
  4. 2 Guards 2nd floor (2A & 2B) 2A Guard must be posted at the elevator to control access.
  5. 2 Guards 3rd floor (3A & 3B) 3A Guard must be posted at the elevator to control access.
  6. 1 Rover Guard
Monday- Friday SPECIAL ORDERS
1 Guard from either 2nd or 3rd floor will be utilized to cover Social Services as needed. This determination will be made by which post has the fewest Bed Passes. When this procedure is in effect the Rover will assist the affected floor with rounds.
Lunch breaks begin at 11am. One Guard every 30 minutes.

CLIENTS ARE ONLY PERMITTED ACCESS TO THE FLOOR AND ROOM ASSIGNED. UTILIZE BED ROSTER BY CHECKING FOR VERIFICATION OF CLIENT BED LOCATION. (CHECK THE DATE IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT HAND CORNER DAILY)

Shift 3

16:00 p.m to 0:00 a.m
4:00 pm to midnight


Team = 9 Guards and 1 Supervisor


Shift Responsibilities
The responsibility of this shift is to confirm the security and fire safety of BVSJ/DHS/Salim House Shelter, in addition to the security of staff, residents and guests. Ensure all equipment and security devices are operational, to ensure that all rules and regulations of BVSJ/DHS/Salim House Shelter, are adhered to.
Security Dorm check is conducted every half hour, security shall observe for any violations (see BVSJ/DHS/Salim House Shelter, Rules).
Guards must:
  1. Knock on the door state your gender (male/Female)
  2. Check to see if there are any violations i.e. smoking or drug use, items on top of the lockers, food, no unauthorized electronics plugged in.
  3. Note violators' bed numbers and report to your Shift Supervisor. The Shift Supervisor will inform the Operations Manager on duty.
  4. Bed Count.
  5. At 9:45PM the Shift Supervisor will call security and notify them to, “shut it down”, security will then Stop all traffic in and out of the facility at 10pm.
  6. Clear the floor including bathrooms and Showers and dining/recreational area.
  7. All bags coming from the cafeteria must go through the X-RAY machine as food is not permitted in the dorms.
  8. Ensure everyone is in their dorms
  9. Entry after Bed Count.
  10. The Operations Manager will notify security of who is allowed entry after the count is cleared.

  • 2 Guards Zone (Zone G1 & Zone G2)
  • 1 Guard Post 1
  • 2 Guards 2nd floor (2A & 2B) 2A Guard must be posted at the elevator to control access.
  • 2 Guards 3rd floor (3A & 3B) 3A Guard must be posted at the elevator to control access.
  • 1 Rover Guard
  • 1 Guard Social Services (when social services are closed at 10pm, Guard will relieve floor guards for 15-minute breaks)
Lunch breaks begin at 6:30pm. One Guard every 30 minutes.
